Our Team

Meet the people working on your car.

Five ASE-certified technicians. Four ASE Master-level. Combined, our floor holds twenty-eight individual ASE certifications and one hundred and forty-three years in the trade.

Mark's hiring philosophy is short. We hire for character first — we'll teach the diagnostic equipment. The reason customers come back to Westside is not the ASE plaques on the wall. It is the people. Here they are.

Mark Brennan
Owner
  • ASE Master Certified (all 8)
  • ASE L1 Advanced Engine Performance
  • AAA Approved Auto Repair Manager

Mark grew up in the shop. ASE-certified at 19. Master-certified at 27. Took over Westside from his father Karl in 2014. Spent two years at the Boulder Volkswagen dealership before joining Westside full-time in 2002.

His specialty is the early diagnosis — the kind that catches a $200 cooling-system problem before it becomes a $4,800 head-gasket job. His least favorite phrase is "I should have brought it in sooner."

Off the floor, Mark restores air-cooled Volkswagens (a 1965 Beetle, a 1971 Bus in progress) and tries to keep his 2008 Audi RS4 Avant out of the shop he owns — usually unsuccessfully.

Tony Rivera
Lead Technician · 18 years at Westside
  • ASE Master Certified
  • ASE L1 Advanced Engine Performance
  • BMW STEP Master

Tony joined Westside in 2008 after five years at a Lakewood independent BMW shop. The BMW STEP Master designation is a four-year program through the BMW factory training network — Tony completed it in 2019, one of fewer than 300 independent technicians in the country to do so.

His specialty is BMW Vanos and turbo work — the N54 high-pressure fuel pumps, the N55 charge-pipes, the S55 valve-cover gasket — the jobs the dealer service writer hates because they don't have a $4,000 menu price.

Tony grew up in west Denver, went to Lakewood High School, and has been wrenching since he was fourteen.

Diego Saldana
European Specialist · 11 years at Westside
  • ASE Master Certified
  • Bosch Certified
  • Audi Academy Graduate (2014)

Diego came to Westside in 2015 after going through the Audi Academy training program. His specialty is Audi and VW timing-chain work and DSG transmission service — he can do a Mark 7 GTI timing-chain job in 6 hours, the fastest in the shop by a noticeable margin.

Diego is the tech most likely to be three layers deep into a wiring diagram when Mark asks him a question. He is also the tech who will walk a customer to the parts bench and explain exactly what he found, in plain English, before any work begins.

Originally from Pueblo, came to Denver in 2012. Drives a 2016 Audi S3 he bought used and modified slowly over four years.

Jamal Carter
Service Technician · 6 years at Westside
  • ASE Certified (6 certifications)
  • ASE L1 in progress

Jamal started at Westside in 2020 as a tire technician and worked his way up through the lube bay, brake bay, and into full-service work. ASE-certified in six categories, currently working through the L1 Advanced Engine Performance exam.

His specialty so far is brake and suspension work — the precision jobs where measurement matters more than speed. Customers ask for Jamal by name after the first time they meet him.

Grew up in Aurora, two-time state champion wrestler at Smoky Hill, picked up his first wrench at sixteen at his uncle's body shop. Drives a 2014 Subaru WRX he is slowly turning into a track car.

Lisa Brennan
Service Manager · 8 years at Westside
  • Bosch Service Advisor Certified
  • NAPA AutoCare Service Manager Certified

Lisa joined Westside in 2018, six months after she and Mark got married. Twelve years at a regional credit union before that, then one year at a Colorado Honda dealership service counter — long enough to learn the service-writer game, short enough not to become it.

Lisa runs the appointment book, the customer communication, the parts ordering, and the books. She is the reason the phone gets answered within two rings during shop hours. She is the person who calls you with the diagnosis and the estimate, and she is the person who calls you back when the work is done.

Her specialty is the difficult call — the one where the news is more expensive than the customer was hoping. She delivers it straight, with options, and with respect.

You can have all the diagnostic equipment in the world. It doesn't matter if the people running it don't care. We hired ours for the caring. — Mark Brennan
