What We Do

Every service. Every make. One shop.

Westside is a full-service mechanical-repair shop. We do oil changes, brake jobs, transmission service, A/C, tires, alignments, Colorado inspections, and pre-purchase inspections. We do them on Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, Volkswagens, Porsches, Minis, Volvos — and on whatever else you bring us.

We are best known for European cars because that is what Karl trained on in Wolfsburg in 1972 and what Mark has spent twenty-two years specializing in. If you bring us a Honda or a Subaru, we will service it competently — but the European platforms are where our equipment, parts relationships, and factory training make the largest difference for you.

Oil & Maintenance

Scheduled service is the work that keeps cars on the road. We follow the factory service intervals for your specific platform — not a generic "every 3,000 miles" sticker. Most modern European cars are on 7,500- to 10,000-mile intervals with full-synthetic oil and an OE-spec filter.

We stock the right oil for your car. We are not a quick-lube. We do not pressure-wash your engine bay or try to sell you a transmission flush you don't need.

  • Full-synthetic oil to factory specification (Audi VW 504/507, BMW LL-01, MB 229.x, Porsche A40/C30/C40)
  • OE-equivalent oil filter with new crush washer
  • Multi-point inspection with photos of any issues we find

Brakes

Pads, rotors, calipers, fluid. We measure every rotor before we recommend replacement — we will show you the gauge reading. We default to OE-equivalent parts (Brembo, ATE, TRW, Pagid) unless the customer prefers OE-original.

A typical front brake job on a 2017–2024 Audi/BMW/Mercedes runs $385–$540 with OE-equivalent parts. The dealer will quote you $700–$950 for the same work. Call us with your VIN for an exact quote.

  • Pads (OE-equivalent or OE — your choice)
  • Rotors (resurfaced if within spec; replaced if not — we measure and show you)
  • Caliper inspection, slide-pin lubrication, hardware, fluid check, test drive

Engine Diagnostics

Your check-engine light is not a problem to be cleared. It is a message from the car's onboard computer that one of its sensors is reporting a value outside expected range. The cheap code reader at the parts store will tell you the code; it will not tell you the cause.

We run factory diagnostic software for every European make — VAG-COM (VCDS), BMW ISTA, Mercedes XENTRY, Porsche PIWIS, Volvo VIDA — plus generic OBD-II for everything else. Diagnosis fee is $145, applied toward the repair if you proceed.

  • Factory diagnostic software (not parts-store code readers)
  • Live data analysis — we watch sensor values in real time
  • Written diagnosis report with photos and repair quote

Transmission Service

The ZF 8HP automatic that ships in most modern Audis, BMWs, and Jaguars is a sealed unit that the dealer will tell you is "lifetime fluid." That is marketing language. The fluid breaks down at 60,000 to 80,000 miles, and a fluid-and-filter service at that interval will add another 100,000 miles to the transmission's life.

We do ZF 8HP service, DSG (VW/Audi dual-clutch) service, manual transmission clutch and fluid work, and CVT service on the makes we recommend it for.

  • ZF 8HP fluid + pan/filter service (BMW, Audi, JLR)
  • DSG 6-speed and 7-speed service (VW, Audi, Porsche)
  • Clutch replacement on manual platforms

A/C & Heating

We service both R134a and the newer R1234yf refrigerants (2018+ European cars almost universally use R1234yf). Most A/C complaints we see are not "needs a recharge" — they're a leaking condenser, a failed compressor clutch, or a stuck blend-door actuator. We pressure-test before we recharge.

Heater complaints on European cars are usually about the auxiliary water pump or a stuck heater-control valve, not a coolant flush. We diagnose first.

  • R134a and R1234yf service (we own both machines)
  • Leak detection with UV dye and electronic sniffer
  • Condenser, compressor, and blend-door actuator replacement

Tires & Alignment

We mount, balance, rotate, and align. We do not sell tires we wouldn't put on Mark's RS4. We mostly recommend Michelin, Continental, and Pirelli for the European platforms we work on; if your car came on a less common OE tire, we'll order it.

Our alignment rack is a Hunter Hawkeye — the rack the BMW dealer uses. Camber, caster, toe — adjusted to factory spec for your platform.

  • Hunter Hawkeye 4-wheel alignment
  • Tire mounting and Road Force balancing
  • TPMS service and reset (we have the dealer-level tool)

Colorado Emissions Inspection

We are a Colorado licensed inspection station. We perform on-board diagnostic emissions inspections and the new opacity tests required for diesels. Most cars are in and out in thirty minutes.

If your car fails, we'll diagnose the cause and quote the repair before we re-test. If the repair is something you don't want to do here, we'll tell you and send you on your way.

  • OBD-II emissions inspection (gas vehicles)
  • Opacity test (diesel vehicles)
  • Pre-test scan to identify likely failures before you bring the car in

Pre-Purchase Inspection

Before you buy that 2017 Audi S4 from a private seller on Craigslist, bring it to us. We will spend 90 minutes on a multi-point inspection: compression test, leak-down test, scan for stored fault codes (the seller has not cleared, because they don't know how), brake measurement, suspension check, frame and underbody check, fluid analysis, and a road test.

Pre-purchase inspection is $245. We've talked customers out of more bad deals than we can count.

  • Full mechanical and electronic scan (with stored, not just current, codes)
  • Frame, underbody, and accident-history check
  • Written report with photos, sent to your phone before you leave
